Historical Record:
"The Port Chicago, California, Ship Explosion of 17 July
1944"
"'The many hundreds of pages of previously
classified Government records that report the circumstances and physical
manifestations of the Port Chicago explosion are composed, in the greater
part, of extensively detailed data obtained by measurement of the actual,
physical effects of the Port Chicago explosion. Those data and analyses of
those data were necessary to confirm the Manhattan Project's mathematically
modeled, theoretical forecasts of the destructive effects that would result
from the use of atomic bombs designed to accomplish military objectives,
tactical and strategic."
